THE CHALLENGE
When most people look at an expanse of construction, demolition and excavation material they see only waste. Andrew Thompson, Director at William Thompson & Son, is able to see things differently with the introduction of a CDE C&D waste recycling plant, “This material which was once left unused can now be washed, screened and sorted into a range of valuable products.”
William Thompson and Sons began life as a quarrying business in 1946 and later added a recycling and landfill business to the group.
The company had been backfilling its original quarry with construction and excavation waste materials, but this was reaching the end of its life. Advances in processing technology also meant that the material which was previously considered waste could now be transformed into high-value materials.
THE SOLUTION
The C&D recycling plant on the outskirts of Glasgow operates at a capacity of 120 tph and includes closed circuit water treatment and recycling. The plant is able to recycle up to 80% of the material which was previously considered waste for landfill.
THE RESULTS
Material which was once left unused can now be washed, screened and sorted into a range of valuable products.
William Thompson & Sons is able to supply the C&D waste recycling plant using material originating exclusively from its landfill site as well as imported material. The C&D recycling plant will now be utilised to turn these waste materials into a range of products with a commercial value.
